Abscissa Überblick
Abszisse ist ein Programm zur Erstellung hochwertiger 2D-Diagramme aus Daten, die in ASCII-Tabellenform vorliegen. Daten können durch eine benutzerdefinierte Formel erstellt und modifiziert werden. I haven't used this program--it might be wonderful, but I am puzzled by all of the otherwise high-quality plotting programs for the Mac that force you to put your data into ASCII files. This is a big nuisance for technical data which is usually available in binary form, thus requiring a wasteful and potentially error-prone step of conversion. Floating-point binary formats were standardized years ago. Making a program have an option to read binary files is trivial, even allowing the user to specify header bytes and row-column ordering. It just amazes me that this is not included in most plotting programs.

Abscissa is the simplest, thinnest and most powerfull 2Dplot program I have ever used. I make many plots with a huge number of data (1000 x 1000) calculated by my owns scientific programs output on ASCII files. They are very rapidly absorbed and displaied by Abscissa. The quality of the final plots together with its many caption options are such that I can use Abscissa graphic ouput directly in my scientific publications.
Abscissa is a beautifully written and smart software!

Apple includes an app called Grapher with OS X. It is capable of importing sets of points (2D or 3D) from disk files and plotting them.

Abscissa is one of the best available 2D-plot program. Importing data from ascii files is very simple and efficient. Graphics are great and easy to export. The interface is not immediatly intuitive and a detailed manual would be welcome to tak advantage of the many powerful features that you discover in using the program.
A great software, beautifully optimized and efficient.
